HIV service patient information leaked

NHS Highland was criticised by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) for a severe breach of trust when an email error led to the data leak of 40 HIV patients. The ICO issued a reprimand rather than a £35,000 fine imposed on private sector organisations for similar breaches. The incident occurred when NHS Highland exposed its HIV patient email list, leading to some patients recognising one another.
