Home Economics: How Life in 123 Million American Households Was Exposed Online

A security breach at data analytics firm Alteryx exposed a cloud-based repository containing data on 123 million US households, suggesting that cyber risk could extend to third-party companies holding data belonging to large corporations. Among the firms affected were Alteryx partner Experian, the consumer credit reporting agency, and the US Census Bureau, with the agency’s data considered to be predominantly above board. Alteryx was alerted by the UpGuard Cyber Risk Team and moved to secure the open portal.
