Hope for CareSpark still remains

Regional health information organization (RHIO), CareSpark, has been forced to close due to legacy debt and an unsustainable business model. The organization was unable to transition to a subscription-based model from a grant- and contract-based model. The complexity of the healthcare system and the growth of for-profit organizations providing connectivity services at a more cost-efficient rate also contributed to CareSpark’s demise. However, the board of directors has left open the possibility of revitalizing the RHIO in the future.
