Hospitality sector targeted by increasingly advanced phishing attacks

Hospitality businesses are facing increasingly sophisticated phishing attacks that are capitalising on Domain Name System protocol exploitation to avoid detection, according to a report by Akamai Technologies. An attack wave in June used a dual strategy, first targeting hotel staff phones to facilitate data exfiltration before attacking hotel customers’ online accounts and stealing credit card details. Attackers primarily appeared to be based in Switzerland, Hong Kong and Canada.
