Hospitals boost operating margins in July: report

US hospitals reported healthy operating margins in July as patient volumes rose, according to data firm Strata. The median year-to-date operating margin increased to 6.5% from 4.9% in June on the back of growing demand for inpatient and outpatient services. However, there were also substantial expense increases during the month, such as a 17.3% increase in drug costs.
