How a physician-owned practice recovered from a ransomware incident

A ransomware attack on OrthoVirginia, Virginia’s largest provider of orthopedic medicine and therapy, disrupted access to workstations, imaging systems, and backed-up data. The incident impacted patient care, but the organization did not pay the ransom and managed to continue surgeries without shutting down patient care. OrthoVirginia later partnered with Clearwater to strengthen its cybersecurity program and implement additional defenses against future attacks. Communication and shared understanding of the importance of cyber hygiene practices were highlighted as key for successful implementation.
