How digital tools can support patient safety

siteadmin July 21, 2023

Digital technology could reduce the estimated 237 million annual medication errors in the NHS, saving up to 1,000 lives and £100m in care costs each year. An estimated 300 life-threatening situations are averted daily through digital prescribing. However, for safety improvements, the technology must be widely available and interoperable between settings, while staff require appropriate skills and confidence. Quality standards should be shared to reduce data overload and enable effective interpretation. Regulatory authorities have a key part to play in ensuring safe use of devices and apps.
