How GP practices should deal with a breach of confidential data

Healthcare settings often experience data security incidents, as reported by the Information Commissioner’s Office. From April to June 2021, there were 607 incidents in the health sector, an increase from 420 in the previous quarter. Common reasons for breaches include data being lost, stolen, or sent to the wrong recipient. To prevent these occurrences, it’s recommended to always check recipient details, avoid disclosing patient information in public places, and exercise caution when redacting documents and disposing of hardware or paperwork.
