How Russia-linked malware cut heat to 600 Ukrainian buildings in deep winter

In January 2017, malware was used in a cyber attack against a heating utility in Lviv, Ukraine that resulted in 600 buildings losing heat for 48 hours. Industrial cybersecurity firm Dragos reported that this is the first known case of hackers directly sabotaging a heating utility. The malware altered temperature readings, tricking control systems into cooling hot water flowing to buildings.
