Huntington’s Researchers Discover That Protein Aggregates Poke Holes in the Nuclear Membrane

Scientists at Utrecht University have identified a new way which toxic protein aggregates associated with Huntington’s Disease could damage nerve cells and result in cell death. The study, published in the Journal of Cell Biology, explains that these aggregates may damage the membrane separating nucleus and cell, impair DNA, and alter the neuron genes’ activity. The study suggests this could be a common cause of many neurodegenerative diseases.
