IBM Security’s Next-Generation Intrusion Prevention System (NG-IPS) focuses on protecting vulnerabilities rather than known exploits. It is part of the Security Network Protection system, called XGS, which offers both hardware and software solutions. The system uses heuristics and behavior-based analysis to identify threats and is supported by IBM’s X-Force Research team. The system also includes a security and event management solution called QRadar. Pricing is based on the amount of protection required and can be upgraded as needed. Other leading security specialists include Cisco, Fortinet, Juniper Networks, Damballa Failsafe, and Symantec Endpoint Protection.
