Insiders, hackers causing bulk of 2017 healthcare data breaches
The healthcare sector is experiencing a significant increase in data breaches compared to last year, with the Protenus Breach Barometer midyear report finding that 2017 is on track to surpass last year’s rate of one breach per day. So far this year, the healthcare sector has reported 233 breach incidents, resulting in the breach of over 3.16 million patient records. The biggest threats are insiders and hackers, with hacking accounting for 75 breaches and insiders accounting for 96 incidents.
