The water sector’s cybersecurity is a concerning vulnerability to US national infrastructure, despite many efforts from major institutions. Adversaries, including the Chinese government, reportedly show interest in targeting US water infrastructure. The suggested improvements include focusing on cybersecurity improvement with optimal technology, risk monitoring, creating new regulatory frameworks, utilizing investment dollars for technology upgrades, and enhancing cyber resilience planning. An independent entity, similar to the proposed Water Risk and Resilience Organization, could lead the development of cybersecurity requirements.
