Johns Hopkins has big plans for AI in Epic chart summarization

Johns Hopkins Medicine is integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into its systems through the use of ambient scribing and patient portal applications. Developed in conjunction with EHR provider Epic, the AI listens to a clinical encounter and constructs it into a new generative paragraph, simplifying the documentation process. The hospital also uses AI for patient portal message draft replies. This type of AI is utilized to generate draft responses to common patient queries, reducing cognitive strain on the physician.
