Google and the University of Chicago Medical Center have been granted dismissal of a class action suit that claimed they failed to properly de-identify data used for machine learning research and predictive analytics projects. The suit’s plaintiff alleged that Google’s expertise in data mining and artificial intelligence made it uniquely able to determine the identity of almost every medical record. The judge ruled that the plaintiff did not provide evidence that Google had re-identified any electronic health records.
