Judge flags merging Optus data breach proceedings

Justice Jonathan Beach suggested merging the Optus data breach class action led by Slater & Gordon with proceedings kick-started by the Australian Communications and Media Authority alleging Optus broke legislation regarding customer data protection by not defending its systems from a cyber attack in September 2022. Around 9.8 million customers’ data was accessed and Optus was taken to court by those whose data was compromised.
