JUMPSEC research reveals UK ransomware attacks rose

Ransomware attacks have surged in 2023, with attacker-reported cases rising by 87% in the UK and 37% globally, according to JUMPSEC. The firm anticipates this year will be the busiest yet for such attacks. Vulnerabilities in widely used platforms appear to be a key factor behind the uptick. JUMPSEC also notes a rising trend in hackers targeting the financial services, insurance and IT sectors. The most common ransomware variants are Lockbit and CL0P, with the latter’s impact growing significantly.
