June 2022 Healthcare Data Breach Report

70 data breaches of 500 or more records were reported to the OCR in June 2022. Over the past year, 692 large healthcare data breaches exposed 42.43 million individuals’ information. While breaches were fewer than in the first half of 2021, the number of compromised records is rising. June witnessed the highest monthly total so far in 2022 with 5.85 million records breached, marking a year-on-year increase. Most breaches in June involved ransomware attacks.
