KFF Analysis Finds Physician Networks in ACA Marketplace Plans Vary Widely, and Enrollees Typically Pay More in Premiums to Access Broader Networks

The least costly plans under the Affordable Care Act typically have less access to doctors, with enrollees having access to around 40% of local practising physicians on average, according to a KFF analysis. The study also revealed that expensive plans offering access to a larger network of doctors can result in higher premiums for consumers. Additionally, enrollees in rural areas often have limited access to specialist in-network doctors compared to those in urban areas.
