Law enforcement operation takes aim at an often-overlooked cybercrime linchpin

The Europol operation dubbed “Operation Endgame” successfully disrupted malware droppers, arresting four individuals, taking down 100 servers, and seizing 2,000 domain names. Droppers are software used to spread malware such as ransomware and spyware by hiding it within email attachments or alongside legitimate software. Europol named six of the top droppers as IcedID, SystemBC, Pikabot, Smokeloader, Bumblebee, and Trickbot. The successful operation signifies a significant blow to cybercrime infrastructure.
