Leishmaniasis Research Gets Major Boost for Vaccine Development

Scientists have developed a way to safely infect volunteers with the leishmaniasis-causing parasite and measure immune responses. The study, conducted by the University of York and Hull York Medical School, could accelerate vaccine development for the disease, which affects over one million people each year. Current preventative measures for leishmaniasis are limited due to clinical trial challenges in the areas where it’s common.
