Let’s Not Fool Ourselves About Yogurt

Despite the popularity of yogurt due to its high protein content and probiotic benefits, many varieties sold in the U.S. are not as healthy as perceived. Many are high in sugar and additives, making them similar in health effects to ice cream. Even low-fat, zero-sugar yogurt may not offer the usual health benefits, with many lacking live bacteria associated with gut health. The author suggests that while yogurt has a “health halo”, it can often be more akin to dessert.
