Long Island provider exposes data of 42,000 patients in misconfigured database

Long Island-based medical practice Cohen, Bergman, Klepper, Romano MDs exposed the personally identifiable information of about 42,000 patients due to misconfigured databases. This issue is a common problem in the healthcare industry, with estimates that 70 to 99 percent of breaches are caused by internal misconfiguration. The exposed data included names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, and insurance information, as well as 3 million clinical notes and extensive staff information. The clinic took almost two months to secure the data after being notified by UpGuard.
