Major NHS breach means 150,000 patients had confidential data used without consent
The UK’s National Health Service (NHS) experienced a data breach, with a significant 150,000 patients having their confidential information used without consent for purposes of clinical audits and research. An error in software coding failed to log that the patients had requested their data not be used for research. Software firm TPP, which created the software, has issued an apology. UK Health Minister, Jackie Doyle-Price emphasised this did not carry risk to patient care.
