Malware attack on UVA Health gave hacker access for 19 months

A hacker gained access to the University of Virginia Health System and infected physician devices with malware, allowing them to access medical records of 1,882 patients for 19 months. The breach was discovered in December 2017, but access was gained in May 2015. The data compromised included patient names, diagnoses, treatments, dates of birth, and addresses. The hacker has been arrested and did not take or share the patient information. The system has enhanced its security measures to prevent future breaches.
