The US-led international operation has disrupted the notorious botnet and malware infrastructure ‘Qakbot’, which caused hundreds of millions in damages worldwide by infecting over 700,000 computers. Approximately $8.6 million was seized in cryptocurrency during the raid. Both Europol and Eurojust played a key role in the investigation, helping facilitate cross-border cooperation. The malware was mainly spread through spam emails and could be controlled remotely, often without the victim’s knowledge.
