The study found that vendors were shipping unregistered and counterfeited medicines, which carry consumer health risks. The World Health Organization had previously warned of fake versions of the medication. The rise of illegal sales could be linked to factors like unaffordable pricing, lack of insurance coverage, and the reluctance of some doctors to prescribe the drug.
