Member of LockBit ransomware group sentenced to 4 years in prison
Mikhail Vasiliev, a dual Canadian-Russian national, has been sentenced to four years in prison for using LockBit ransomware to infect over 1,000 victims and extort tens of millions of dollars. Arrested in November 2022, Vasiliev pleaded guilty to eight counts of cyber extortion, mischief, and weapons charges. Authorities seized 14,000 accounts and 34 servers related to the LockBit operation, while freezing 200 cryptocurrency accounts, leading to several arrests and indictments.
