Mental health trusts still unable to access records months after attack

siteadmin October 13, 2022

The NHS is still struggling to recover electronic patient records for 12 mental health trusts hit by a ransomware attack on their software supplier, Advanced, in August. Trusts reliant on the CareNotes EPR software have faced system outages and significant disruption to patient care. The disruption is worse than the 2017 Wannacry attack, with recovery expected to extend into 2023. Some trusts have switched to alternative systems, with a return to CareNotes seen as unlikely. The incident has prompted calls for greater prioritisation of mental health trusts in cybersecurity responses.
