Meta shuts down Chinese influence campaign | Information Age

Meta, Facebook’s parent company, has shut down nearly 9,000 Facebook and Instagram accounts in its crackdown against a Chinese political spam network. The operation, known as “Spamouflage”, consisting of multiple operators in China, was active on over 50 platforms, including Facebook and Instagram. Meta initially addressed this spam activity in 2019 but recently linked it to Spamouflage, and found links to individuals associated with Chinese law enforcement.
