Michigan cancer center notifies 22,000 patients of breach 5 months after hack

Cancer center Singh and Arora Oncology Hematology in Flint, Michigan has notified 22,000 patients of a data breach that occurred between February and July 2016. The breach included personal information such as names, Social Security numbers, and insurance information. The breach was reported to the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Civil Rights on Oct. 21st, but patients are just now being notified. The reason for the delay has not been provided. The center believes the hackers were not targeting patient data.
