Microsoft Defender thwarted Akira ransomware attack on industrial engineering firm

In June 2023, Microsoft prevented a major hacking campaign carried out by Akira ransomware group targeting an industrial engineering firm. Utilising Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, the company was able to block the attack and protect the organisation’s devices from being encrypted. Akira has been active since March 2023, targeting multiple industries such as education, finance, and real estate.
