Microsoft disables Windows feature amid flurry of cyberattacks

Microsoft has disabled its Windows App Installer feature to prevent its use for spreading malware, following its discovery by financially motivated threat actors. The tech giant also blocked relevant Teams accounts and revoked code signing certifications of identified malicious apps. Customers can now use Microsoft’s reports for information on potentially harmful activity. This comes after Microsoft and Amazon’s joint effort with law enforcement to combat tech support fraud in October 2023.
