Microsoft is using malware-like pop-ups in Windows 11 to get people to ditch Google

Many Windows 11 users recently complained about a pop-up prompting them to switch their default search engine to Microsoft Bing in Chrome. The pop-up even appeared over apps and games, concerning many users who initially considered it malware. This is caused by an executable file digitally signed by Microsoft inside the temp folder. Microsoft acknowledged the complaints and paused the notification temporarily. Critics argue that as a paid software, Windows should respect user preferences and refrain from intrusive advertising.
