DarkGate, a malware first spotted in 2017, has seen an increase in distribution this year, notably spread via phishing campaigns and compromised Microsoft Teams accounts. Security consultants have warned that Microsoft Teams’ security is unable to detect or block the currently used attack vector. The malware’s developer has reportedly been actively expanding their affiliate network, offering DarkGate for $100,000 per year as a ransomware-as-a-service.
