Breaches of the NHS rule requiring men and women to be treated on separate wards have increased more than threefold during the pandemic, with 25,000 reported violations in the six months to March. Dr Max Pemberton from the Daily Mail stressed the risk of safety issues on mixed wards, including an increased threat of violence. Meanwhile, many patients feel that mixed wards are dehumanising and undignified environments.
