A new variant of the P2Pinfect malware has been identified targeting IoT devices with 32-bit MIPS processors. The malware aims to bruteforce secure shell access to these devices, exploiting Redis servers for initial access. Experts from Cado Security Labs predict the malware is now aiming to compromise routers and IoT devices, marking a shift from previous general server attacks. The malware’s sophisticated evasion techniques indicate that its creators are highly skilled and focused on developing a robust, hard-to-detect botnet.
