Mobile Data: How a Quiz App Exposed Account Details for Millions
UpGuard, a cybersecurity firm, reported unsecured storage of personal data from multi-device advertising app TVSmiles. The data, including the details of six million app users and business clients, was stored in a public Amazon S3 bucket, containing a 306 GB PostgreSQL database backup. The leak was reported to TVSmiles and secured. TVSmiles combines ads, games and a mobile loyalty program, which helped it collect extensive user data, however, the General Data Protection Regulation applies to this German company as many of its users are in Europe.
