More than 200 ‘life-saving’ operations cancelled by NHS hospitals after cyberattack

A cyberattack, believed to have been carried out by Russian group Qilin, on Synnovis, a pathology services supplier for the NHS, caused significant disruption to hospitals in London. Major procedures including cancer treatments and emergency operations had to be cancelled, straining services. Up to a third of appointments were impacted, with concerns arising over a potential prolonged recovery period. This coincides with a national blood shortage, further stretching resources. The crisis has led to hospitals including Guy’s, St Thomas’, and King’s College and others to declare a critical incident.
