Most hospitals are not yet ready for LLM-based patient portals

Patient portals can improve patient experience with features such as chatbots and digital twins. In a Franciscus Hospital session, CMIO Dr Roel Bolt discussed the evolution of patient portals and the potential benefits of large language models (LLMs), but warned of their complexity and transparency issues. Though successful portals can boost patient engagement and satisfaction, barriers include limited digital literacy and internet access, usability issues, and privacy concerns.
