New air pollution alert system warns London NHS doctors and healthcare staff when it gets dangerous

A new air quality alert system for healthcare providers in London, the first of its kind in the UK, will warn frontline staff in GP and A&E departments of high pollution levels. Developed in response to the death from air pollution of a nine-year-old Londoner in 2013, the system allows clinicians to better support patients affected by such pollution. Annually, air pollution causes up to 43,000 premature deaths in the UK.
