The compound, the first in a novel class of antibiotics, targets bacteria that can cause drug-resistant staph infections, toxic shock syndrome and other potentially deadly illnesses and could help with conditions currently resistant to existing antibiotics. The research team confirmed infected mice treated with the compound had less weight loss, smaller ulcers and fought off infections faster.
