New government requirements will help secure medical devices

The US FDA has ordered all manufacturers to include a software bill of materials (SBOM) with medical devices, boosting cyber defense in healthcare. SBOMs record information about the software components in a application or system, such as names, licences and any vulnerabilities. By using SBOMs, healthcare providers can see and counter any potential security risks. They supply other benefits, like regulatory compliance, efficient incident responses and promoting secure software development practices.
