New malware found in analysis of Russian hacks on Ukraine, Poland

Russian state-controlled hacker group, Fancy Bear, has targeted Ukrainian and Polish organisations in a new cyber operation. The group sent phishing emails with malicious attachments, which infected devices with Masepie malware, allowing the hackers to upload data-stealing malware Steelhook and a backdoor called Oceanmap. In 2023, the group, linked to Russia’s GRU, targeted Ukrainian energy facilities, government agencies and the military, as well as French universities and businesses.
