Newly discovered Android malware has infected thousands of devices

Seven different set-top boxes and an Android tablet have been found to be pre-installed with Android malware known as Badbox and Peachpit. The affordable devices, often sold under various names or unbranded on retailers like Amazon, are linked to fraudulent schemes like ad fraud, residential proxy services, and the installation of malicious code. The solution is for buyers to research an unfamiliar brand’s credibility before making a purchase, and not clicking on suspicious ads.
