NHS appeals to military veterans to assist with blood shortage after cyber attack
The NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) has issued its second amber alert due to low blood stocks resulting from staff shortages and changes in donor behaviour caused by the pandemic. The numbers have fallen as the NHSBT stopped utilising walk-in donations and ‘bloodmobiles’. Health Secretary, Wes Streeting, plans to amend the NHS app to record patients’ blood types and aim appeals at specific types.
