NHS condemned for HIV data breach
NHS Highland has been reprimanded by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) over a serious breach of data protection, in which an email exposed the personal addresses of 37 users of its HIV services. The ICO, which deemed there is “simply no excuse” for the error, has called for data protection safeguards to be improved within HIV services. NHS Highland, which has apologised for the breach, has taken remedial steps to avoid a similar incident in future.
