NHS ‘could have prevented’ WannaCry ransomware attack
NHS trusts in England were rendered vulnerable to the WannaCry ransomware attack in May due to a failure to follow cybersecurity recommendations, according to a UK National Audit Office report. Over a third of trusts were disrupted by the cyber attack, which encrypted data on infected computers and demanded a ransom of £230 ($300). At least 6,900 NHS appointments were cancelled, though patient data was not compromised.
