NHS Covid-19 app pings rise by over 70,000 to new record

A record 689,313 self-isolation alerts were issued by the NHS Covid-19 app in England and Wales in the week to 21 July. Following criticism of the app for causing disruption to businesses and industries, Downing Street has announced it will be setting up more testing sites. Starting on 16 August, fully-vaccinated individuals will not need to self-isolate if alerted by the app, but are encouraged to take a test.
