NHS cyber attack causing chaos in London hits other hospitals in UK

The London-based pathology service Synnovis, a collaboration between private company Synlab and the NHS, was targeted by Russian cybercriminals in a ransomware attack. The service disruption has led to the cancellation of more than 200 life-saving operations and over 3,000 non-surgical appointments. While hospitals outside of London, including Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, also use Synnovis, the effect is expected to be minimal. The attack has also triggered a crisis in blood transfusions due to limitations in cross-checking blood types.
